St Louis Year 9 hurlers created history recently when they won the Danske Bank McGreevy Cup for the first time in the school’s history. The new champions defeated Colaiste Mhuire, Buncrana on Friday 7th December at MUSA, Cookstown. They won on a score line of 6-7 to 1-2. St Louis had a wind advantage in the first half and led 2-5 to 0-2 at half time. Despite Buncrana’s best efforts to try to reduce the score difference in the opening few minutes of the second half, St Louis were able to raise the standard of skill and play to another level that the Donegal side simply couldn’t answer. Their efforts were not helped when they had a player sent off in the forty fifth minute and St Louis pushed on to win their first ever McGreevy Cup title.
Loughgiel Shamrocks have six players involved in the St Louis team. Brian McNaughton is vice captain of the team and is joined by his club mates Shaun McFadden, Conall McHenry, Donagh Carey, Charlie Henry and Cormac McFadden.
