Shamrocks hit the first three points, only for Paul McDonnell to level with a sixth-minute goal. But the holders went on to lead by 1-11 to 2-5 at the break with Shay Casey netting in the 19th minute and Randal McDonnell accounting for Glenariffe's second major.
Loughgiel upped the ante on the restart with five unanswered points before Liam Watson goaled with his first touch after coming on as a substitute. Johnny McIntosh and Seamus McDonnell scored a couple of late goals for Glenariffe, but it was a case of too little, too late.
