Loughgiel hurlers to play at official opening of Queens facilities - see details below:
Queen’s University have invested in excess of £20m in recent years to transform Upper Malone facilities into a world class centre of excellence in the provision of high quality, community-focused training and competition facilities that benefits students and the wider community and helps cement Queen’s University as one of Ireland’s premier sporting universities. This investment allows more people access to world-class, high performance facilities gives the community a greater degree of participation in sport and provides Queen’s students with the tools and the platform to become some of Ireland’s top sports men and women, for generations to come.
The most recent addition to our portfolio is a fully floodlit grass pitch for dedicated GAA use all year round and this project is approaching completion, in time for the hosting of the GAA14 Festival at the University this Academic year. The pitch also incorporates a substantial training area, which is independently floodlit. Both facilities are serviced by an adjacent changing area which also caters for our other two external grass pitches.
The pitch will be prioritized for student GAA but substantial time every week will be available for external and partner bookings.
We are officially opening the new pitch on Friday 6th September with a high profile football & hurling double header. We would like to invite you, as a valued partner of the GAA family at Queen’s, to a hospitality event at Upper Malone to showcase & open the Academy pitch (Old Sigerson pitch). We hope that this evening will give you an opportunity to sample the fantastic new facilities and to enjoy some high quality games.
The running order is as follows:
6.30pm – Queen’s Ladies (O’Connor Cup Champions) Vs Down
7.45pm – Hospitality & formalities (Pitch side) with Kevin Ryan & James MccCartan
8.00pm – Loughiel Shamrocks (2012 All Ireland Champions) Vs Lucan Sarsfields
The list of past members and friends of Queen’s GAA who receive these emails is by no means exhaustive, so feel free to forward this invite to anyone who might be interested in seeing the new facilities or the games.
