At the start of the 2010 season
Jim Nelson was approached by team manager PJ O'Mullan to come on board as team
coach to the senior hurling team. Jim
gladly accepted and stayed with us until his passing earlier this year. Jim not only assisted with senior team but
was always willing to lend a hand at any age group required within the
club. Since Jim came on board to assist
the senior hurlers of Loughgiel have added many titles to the roll of honour
for the club. Under the watchful eye and assistance of Jim the shamrock seniors
secured no less than 2 League, 2 Feis, a fesitval of finals and 4 Antrim &
Ulster Championships. On the 17th March
2012 Jim helped man the line to guide the men in red & white to an All
Ireland title on a day that seen the Tommy Moore cup return to the parish of
Loughgiel for a second time, a day that will remain as one of best for any
shamrock. Jim was a hero in many hurling circles but in Loughgiel Jim was a
legend that we will never forget.
There
will be mass in St Patricks Church Loughgiel on Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm in
memory of Jim so lets get out wearing our club colours to support Jim's wife
& family.
