On Friday past the Parish of Loughgiel gathered for a Memorial Mass for the late Jim Nelson. Members of Loughgiel Shamrocks GAC organised and participated in what was an emotional ceremony for all in attendance. The Senior Manangement, Players and Committee took the opportunity to thank Lily and the Nelson Family for everything Jim did for the club. We remembered Jim for all the success, pleasure and entertainment that he brought to the parish over the last five years, through his knowledge, articulate planning and forward thinking of the game of hurling.
After the ceremony everyone joined the Nelson Family for refreshments in Loughgiel Club House. A Slideshow of pictures and short videos depicting some special memories of Jim's time with Loughgiel and Antrim, most notably the All Ireland Club Victory in 2012 was shown. Club Chairperson John Campbell spoke fondly of Jim and made presentations to the Nelson Family as a token of appreciation. Jim's daughter Ciara spoke on behalf of the Nelson Family and thanked the Club for everything they had done for Jim. She spoke of Jim's love for Loughgiel Shamrocks and the memories they had gave him and his family.
Jim was a true gentleman, a pleasure to work with and we thank him from the bottom of our hearts. Jim you were, are and always will be a legend and a part of our club forever. May you rest in heavenly peace.
