Best Practice Policy in relation to the wearing of Glasses
January 2015
Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee
The GAA’s Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee recommends that players should not wear regular glasses whilst training or playing Gaelic football and/or hurling matches.
As regular glasses are prone to shatter, players should wear safety glasses or goggles whilst playing our games.
These glasses are made with unbreakable polycarbonate lenses, are typically more impact resistant than normal lenses and are less likely to get damaged.
The Committee suggests that the requirement to wear glasses should not affect sports participation and that players should visit an Optometrist / Optical Provider to decide upon the best solution for them.
