BALLYMONEY
MUSEUM NEED YOUR HELP!
Ballymoney
Museum is developing a new and exciting exhibition celebrating the history of
the Gaelic Athletic Association (G.A.A.). The unique display is scheduled for
June 2014 to coincide with the 130th anniversary of the first
meeting of the G.A.A. and a major focus will be the story of Gaelic sports in
the Borough of Ballymoney.
The exhibition
will recall the recent triumphs of the local clubs while also celebrating past
glories stretching back to the early days of Dunloy Cuchullains, Loughgiel
Shamrocks, St Brigid’s of Cloughmills and St Mary’s of Rasharkin. In addition,
it is intended to explore clubs that are no longer in existence such as Tir na
nOgs and Dalriadians from Loughgiel, St Olcan’s of Rasharkin, Patrick Og’s of
Cloughmills and Ballymoney GAC.
The museum hopes
to assemble a collection of material for display including programmes, medals,
trophies, playing and non-playing kit, equipment, tickets and other local
G.A.A. related items and are asking for your help identifying and tracing any
relevant objects, photographs, film or scrapbooks which members of the public
would like to contribute to the exhibition, as a donation or a loan. We welcome
items from the earliest days to the most recent of times. We are also hoping to
create an archive of scanned photographs to be made available to the public.
