The hurling club is preparing to commence works on the new Hurling Wall in the next few weeks. We have already secured in excess of £5000 in private sponsorship which we hope will allow the project to get underway.
In an effort to raise funds for this project the club will be asking individuals/family groups to buy a cubic metre of concrete, an initiative similar to the ‘Buy a Brick’ concept used by the millennium centre a few years back.
The building of a Hurling Wall is really a natural outcome of our desire to improve hurling standards through Skill Development. Many great players had their own wall and some used handball alleys to hone their skills prior to big games. Some continue to use the wall just for the sheer pleasure of it.
The new style wall will allow a whole squad to come together and test their skills against each other under the guidance of their coach. Those who have used a Hurling Wall are in no doubt that it will revolutionise hurling and increase enjoyment for everyone.
Aims:
- To facilitate squad training
- To allow players to take an active role in their own development
- To enable coaches to manage skill development in a positive environment
- To allow the wall to become the teacher
- To remove negative effects of bad ground and poor lighting (October- March)
The cost of a cubic metre of concrete is £60. If you wish to contribute to this exciting new initiative you can do so in a number of ways:
(1) Donate £60 & buy 1 cubic metre of concrete
(2) Donate £30 & buy 1/2 cubic metre of concrete
(3) Create a syndicate with other friends/family members and collectively buy 1 cubic metre of concrete
